Games Like The Sims You Can Play Free in Your Browser

The short answer
Almost no Sims-like game runs in a web browser. The Sims 4 is free but must be installed, The Sims FreePlay is a phone app, and the newer life sims (Paralives, inZOI, Tiny Life) are paid PC games. The big multiplayer life worlds (Second Life, IMVU, Highrise, Avakin Life) are downloads or mobile apps too.
If you want something free that opens in a browser tab, your choices are small 2D portal games or a browser-based 3D world built for it. Here is how everything compares.

The Sims 4
The closest thing to the real Sims for free. The base game has been free since October 2022, but you need to install it and most content is in paid packs.
The Sims FreePlay
EA's mobile Sims. Good for building and decorating on a phone, with timers and purchases built around the free model.
Second Life
The original adult virtual world: deep building and a huge economy, but a steep learning curve and a separate program to install.
IMVU
Avatar chat and room decorating. More about fashion and meeting people than about daily life.
Highrise
Avatar and room social app. Its owner bought Hotel Hideaway in September 2026, another mobile social world.
Avakin Life
3D avatar life and social world with apartments to decorate.
Paralives
An indie life sim in the spirit of The Sims with very flexible building. Single-player and paid.
inZOI
Krafton's realistic life sim. Impressive visuals, heavy hardware requirements, single-player.
Tiny Life
A charming pixel-art take on Sims-style life simulation.
Small browser life sims on game portals
Portals and itch.io host short 2D life and home-design games that run in a tab. Fun for a few minutes, but none have a persistent shared town.
Cancelled or not out yet
Older lists still recommend some of these. They are not playable today.
- Life by You. Cancelled in June 2024 before release; its studio closed.
- FreeSO (The Sims Online revival). The community server shut down in December 2024.
- Project Rene. EA describes it as a social, mobile-first life sim, not The Sims 5. No release date yet.
Our game: Palm Social
Palm Social is a free 3D life-sim and social world that runs in your browser, with nothing to download. You build and furnish your own home, make friends and chat with other players, take café shifts, run a shop, cook, fish, surf and ride jet skis in a realistic coastal town.
It is the reason this page exists: we could not find another game that is free, in the browser, 3D, multiplayer and lets you build a home Sims-style. The honest downsides: it is brand new (opening October 24, 2026), it is made by one developer, and it needs a free account. Players must be 13 or older.
How we checked
On October 21, 2026 we checked each game against its official site or store page and recent news for whether it is still running, which platforms it supports, how it is priced and whether it plays in a browser and with other people. We do not include ratings or scores, and we do not accept payment to be listed. If something here is out of date, email support@playpalmsocial.com and we will correct it.
Frequently asked questions
Can I play The Sims in a browser for free?
Not officially. The Sims 4 base game is free, but it is a download for PC, Mac and consoles, and The Sims FreePlay is a mobile app. Sites that claim to run The Sims in a browser are unofficial. For a Sims-style game that genuinely runs in a browser tab you need a different game.
Is there a free online multiplayer Sims game?
EA has no multiplayer Sims game today; Project Rene is planned as a social, mobile-first game but has no date. Free multiplayer life-sim worlds include Second Life, IMVU, Highrise and Avakin Life (all downloads or apps) and Palm Social, which runs in the browser.
Is The Sims 4 still free?
Yes. The base game has been free since October 18, 2022. Expansion, game and stuff packs are sold separately.
Are Paralives and inZOI out yet?
Both are playable in Steam early access on PC and both are paid. Neither runs in a browser or has multiplayer.
What happened to Life by You?
Paradox cancelled Life by You in June 2024, before its release, and closed the studio making it.
Which Sims-like games work on a Chromebook?
Browser games are the safest choice on a Chromebook because nothing has to be installed. Palm Social and the small portal life sims run in Chrome; The Sims FreePlay and the mobile worlds may work through the Play Store on Chromebooks that support Android apps.
