The short answer
Club Penguin itself is gone, and many lists still recommend fan remakes that have since been shut down. The alternatives that are actually running today split into three groups: kids' worlds (Animal Jam, Webkinz), hangouts for teens and adults (Habbo, Woozworld, Highrise, Avakin Life) and bigger adventure or platform games (Toontown Rewritten, Wizard101, Roblox). Most now need an app or download; only a few still open in a browser.

Toontown Rewritten
A fan-run revival of Disney's Toontown Online and the closest thing to the Disney virtual-world era that is still running. It needs a small download.
Habbo and Habbo Origins
The original pixel hotel. Habbo Origins recreates the 2000s version and is aimed at adults who played it the first time.
Animal Jam
Animal avatars, decorated dens and minigames. The browser version ended with Flash in 2021, so it now needs the app.
Webkinz
The virtual pet world many Club Penguin players also grew up with. Webkinz Classic has a browser version in early access.
Pony Town
A relaxed social roleplay world with no combat or quests. One of the few that genuinely runs in a browser tab.
Woozworld
A fashion and fame virtual world that now targets older teens and adults.
Wizard101
More of an adventure MMO with card battles, but it shares the friendly, social feel of Club Penguin.
Highrise
An avatar and room-decorating social app, closer to Habbo than to a game with activities.
Avakin Life
A 3D avatar life world with apartments to decorate and places to hang out.
Roblox
Not one game but millions of user-made ones, including many hangout and roleplay worlds inspired by Club Penguin.
Closed, shut down or not out yet
Older lists still point to these. They are not playable today.
- Club Penguin. Disney closed the original in March 2017, and its mobile follow-up, Club Penguin Island, in December 2018.
- Club Penguin Rewritten. The biggest fan remake shut down in April 2022 at Disney's request.
- Club Penguin Legacy and other fan servers. Disney has sent takedown notices to Club Penguin fan servers since 2020 and several have closed. Some still run; they use Disney's characters without permission, so we do not link to them.
- Bin Weevils. Offline since January 2021.
- Moshi Monsters. A new game has been announced with a wider launch planned for 2027. It is not out yet.
Our game: Palm Social
Palm Social is a free 3D social world that runs in your browser, with nothing to download. Like Club Penguin it is about hanging out, making friends and having a place of your own, but it is set in a realistic coastal town: build and furnish your own home, chat with other players, take café shifts, run a shop, surf and ride jet skis.
The honest downsides: it is brand new (it opened on October 24, 2026), it is made by Kirouff Games, an independent developer, and it needs a free account. Players must be 13 or older.

Is Club Penguin coming back?
There is no announced official return. Disney closed Club Penguin in 2017 and Club Penguin Island in 2018. Rumors come up from time to time, but nothing has been confirmed.
Are Club Penguin fan servers legal and safe?
Fan servers use Disney's characters and art without permission, and Disney has had several shut down, including Club Penguin Rewritten in 2022. Safety depends on each server's moderation, so check reviews and never reuse a password you use elsewhere.
What is the closest game to Club Penguin?
For the Disney-era feel, Toontown Rewritten. For a pixel hotel full of people, Habbo. For kids, Animal Jam and Webkinz. For a free browser world with homes and activities aimed at teens and adults, Palm Social, which we make.
Is there a Club Penguin-style game for adults?
Habbo Origins is 18+, Woozworld is 16+, and Toontown Rewritten and Highrise have large adult player bases. Palm Social is 13+ with an older, realistic style.
