Disclosure: we make Palm Social, one of the games on this page. It is kept out of the list below and described separately at the end, so you can judge the others on their own.
The short answer
Habbo has not gone anywhere: the hotel is still open, and Habbo Origins recreates the version many people grew up with. Most people searching for a Habbo alternative want something slightly different: a 3D world instead of pixels, something that works on a phone, something that opens in a browser without an install, an older or younger crowd, or more to do than chat and decorate rooms.
The list below covers the options that are running today, with where you can play each one. We left out ratings and scores on purpose; the right pick depends on what you liked about Habbo.
What made Habbo special
It helps to name what you are looking for before you pick a replacement. For most players, Habbo was a few things at once:
- A room of your own to furnish and show off.
- Public places full of strangers where it was easy to start a conversation.
- Friends lists and messages, so people you met came back the next day.
- Collecting and trading furniture and rare items.
- Player-made fun: games, roleplay and events that people set up in their own rooms.
Some alternatives are strong on rooms and chat, others on activities or building. The one-line notes below say which.
Habbo alternatives, one line each
Habbo Origins
Windows and Mac download. Sulake's own recreation of the 2000s hotel. If what you miss is the Habbo of your school years, start here before anything else.
Hotel Hideaway
iOS and Android. A 3D hotel-themed social game for phones, originally made by Sulake. You get a room to decorate, outfits to collect and a hotel full of people to meet.
Highrise
iOS, Android and Mac. Avatar rooms, trading and events on your phone. Probably the closest modern feel to Habbo's rooms-and-chat loop.
IMVU
Desktop app and mobile. 3D avatar chat with rooms you decorate. It leans heavily on fashion and avatar shopping.
Avakin Life
Mobile and PC (Steam). A 3D avatar life world with apartments to furnish and public places to hang out.
Woozworld
Desktop app, iOS and Android. A fashion and fame virtual world with rooms to decorate. It now targets players 16 and older.
Pony Town
Browser and Android. A relaxed 2D pixel world for chatting and roleplay. One of the few social worlds that really runs in a browser tab.
Second Life
Desktop viewer (download) and mobile app. The big user-built 3D world, aimed at adults. Much deeper than Habbo, with a steeper learning curve.
Roblox hangouts
Download, mobile and consoles. Roblox is millions of user-made games, including many hangout and hotel roleplay worlds. Its chat features need an age check.
How to choose
- Browser or install? On a school or work computer, or a Chromebook, a browser game is often the only option. Pony Town and Palm Social run in a tab; most others need an app.
- Who else plays? Check the minimum age. A world built for kids feels very different from one built for adults.
- Chat only, or things to do? Rooms-and-chat apps are great for talking. If you get bored between conversations, look for a world with activities you can do together.
- Pixels or 3D? Habbo Origins and Pony Town keep the 2D look; Hotel Hideaway, Highrise, IMVU, Avakin Life and Second Life are 3D.
Our game: Palm Social

Palm Social is a free 3D social game set in a realistic beach town, and it runs in your web browser on a computer or phone, with nothing to download. Like Habbo, it is about hanging out: meet people, chat, make friends and build and furnish a home of your own. Unlike a hotel, the town has plenty to do between conversations: surf, shoot pool, go to the cinema, take shifts at the café, work out at the gym or go mining.
The honest details: it opened on October 24, 2026, so it is brand new. It is made by Kirouff Games, an independent developer. You need a free account (email, Google or Apple), and players must be 13 or older. There are two servers with room for up to 150 players each. Your first lot is free and your first house is half price. Optional Gold packs exist, and Gold can also be earned by playing.
How we checked
On October 24, 2026 we checked each game against its official site or store listing for whether it is running and where it can be played. We do not include ratings, we do not link to unofficial servers, and nobody paid to be listed. If something here is out of date, email support@playpalmsocial.com and we will correct it.
Frequently asked questions
Is Habbo still running?
Yes. Habbo is still online, and Habbo Origins, a recreation of the 2000s version, runs alongside it. If you want Habbo itself, you can still play it.
Is there a game like Habbo you can play in a browser?
A few. Pony Town runs in a browser tab, and so does Palm Social, which we make. Most Habbo-style apps, including Habbo itself, now ask you to install an app.
Are Habbo retro servers safe?
Retro servers are unofficial copies of the classic hotel run by fans. They use Sulake's art without permission (so we do not link to them), are not moderated by Sulake, and can close at any time, taking accounts and items with them. If you try one, never reuse a password you use anywhere else.
Is there a Habbo-style game for adults?
Second Life is aimed at adults, Woozworld is for players 16 and older, and Palm Social is 13+ with an older, realistic style.
Is Palm Social like Habbo?
In spirit, yes: you hang out, chat, make friends and decorate a place of your own. The difference is that Palm Social is a 3D beach town in your browser, with things to do between conversations, like surfing, shooting pool and café shifts.
